We don’t need you telling us to do something, we've always done a certain way, differently. We don’t want anything new to do. We want to keep doing it the way we’ve been doing it. We want to keep doing it the same way, preferably from the same place. We cannot possibly do it any other way then the way we were doing it especially when we are in a different place. An uncomfortable space. An all too familiar place. No. Nothing new. Thank you!
The easier way to do something is not the way I have been doing it simply because it is the way that it has always been done. The easier way to do something is not the way it has always been done because that is the way I was shown how to do it. The easier way to do something could possibly be a different way than the way I have been doing it all this time. Possibly. If only there was a way to figure out if another way is easier, better or just different. There is. Try. Try an alternative. Not once. But, two or three times. Carry your coffee cup in your opposite hand just to give yourself a sense that discomfort isn't so bad. My discomfort in trying something new, or doing something differently is usually just the signature of growth, the soil parting for the sun to shine on that reaching root. Plant the seed. Break new ground. Create the discomfort of opportunity and growth because the worst that could happen - you are shown the old way was best. But now, where will it lead next?
